Imagine waking up early on a Saturday morning, grabbing a quick cup of coffee and walking just steps to a beautiful golf course to play a round before lunch.  This dream of every avid golfer can come true by purchasing a golf home.

Homes built around a golf course are gaining popularity all over the country, from coast to coast.

While a non-golfer couldn’t imagine the appeal of sitting on their back porch watching other golfers make their way over the lush green grass, a true golf lover’s heart likely beats a little faster at the thought of it.

Golf homes may cost more than other housing in the same area.  In addition to the benefit of being built right next to, or close to, a golf course, many golf homes are built with the more affluent consumer in mind.  The good news is that homes built in a golf themed community tend to appreciate in value faster than the national average, so for the right buyer, these homes can be a great investment.

There are a wide variety of golf homes available.  There are condos, gated communities, options where the golf course is within a few blocks, others where the golf course is literally in your backyard.  It’s important to consider all of the features – and what that means for your property – before selecting a home.

For example, while it might seem like a great idea to purchase a home located right on the green, a buyer must remember that this could inhibit the use of your backyard.   Also,  most golf communities with houses directly on the green will not allow homeowners to put a fence around their property.  This eliminates the backyard privacy that many homeowners cherish.

While golf communities are on the rise, every community, obviously, does not have one.  Unless you are a retiree, or have a job that allows you to work from any location, you may not be able to realize your dream of owning a golf home.  The good news, as mentioned earlier, is that the number of golf homes in growing.  Some communities, such as Charlotte, North Carolina, have several golf properties available within a 20 mile radius.

Once you are serious about purchasing a golf home, find a real estate agent who has experience with such communities.  Such an agent will already be familiar with the available properties in your area, and will know what amenities and extras are included in each community.
